Recycling and Yard Waste Services Begin March 31

Three new residential pickup services will begin March 31, making it easier
for residents to recycle and get rid of yard trimmings, big trash and brush.

Beginning March 31, residents who currently have curbside trash pickup will:

1. Roll recyclables to the curb once a week in 64-gallon blue recycling
carts.

2. Place yard trimmings at the curb in paper yard bags or tied bundles once
a week on recycling day.

3. Call to request timely curbside pickup of big trash and brush.

New services are designed to improve the city's recycling rate, reduce
blowing litter and get brush piles cleaned up more quickly.

Recycling in Carts
Beginning March 31, residents will fill the blue cart with recyclables and
roll it to the front curb by 7 a.m. on their recycling day. To find out your
recycling day, call 817-392-EASY (3279). The cart must be retrieved from the
curb no later than midnight of the pickup day and stored properly. City
ordinance requires carts be stored so they can't be seen from a public
street.

Yard Trimmings
Residents will put leaves and other small yard trimmings in 30-gallon paper
yard bags-instead of plastic bags-and set them out on recycling day, too.
Larger trimmings, such as limbs, branches and shrub clippings can be bundled
with string or twine and set out weekly on recycling day. Bundles should be
no more than four feet long, 18 inches around, and weigh no more than 40
pounds. For larger limbs, stumps or brush, residents must call 817-392-EASY
(3279) to request a Big Trash and Brush pickup.

No Garbage Change Yet
The city will continue to pick up garbage twice a week in plastic bags,
until June 30. That's when citizens will begin putting their bagged garbage
in a separate, brown garbage cart and setting it at the curb near the
recycling cart. Citizens will choose which size garbage cart they need and
garbage rates will be based on the size they choose: 32-gallon/$8 per month,
64-gallon/$13 per month or 96-gallon/$18 per month. Sanitation rates will
remain the same until garbage pickup begins in carts. The more residents
recycle, the less garbage they will have and the smaller garbage container
they will need.
